Oncology Considerations for the Outpatient Physical Therapist Presented by Jay McCallum, PT, DPT, OCS
Virtual presentation 5:30-6:30pm on Tues 2/24/26 As the effectiveness of oncology care continues to rise physical therapists are seeing increasing numbers of patients who are either cancer survivors or are undergoing cancer treatment. This one-hour professional education presentation, Oncology Considerations for the Outpatient Physical Therapist, equips clinicians with practical knowledge to safely and confidently manage patients with a current or past cancer diagnosis. Participants will explore common cancer-related impairments, treatment side effects that influence exercise prescription and progression, red flags requiring referral, and strategies for adapting outpatient plans of care to support function, participation, and quality of life. Speaker bio: Jay McCallum, PT, DPT has practiced physical therapy since 1996 and is a board-certified orthopedic specialist. Prior to his teaching career at NAU, he co-owned an outpatient physical therapy clinic. Dr. McCallum treated patients primarily in outpatient musculoskeletal care caring for patients with a wide range of diagnoses and comorbidities, with a particular interest in those with persistent pain conditions.
